Blessed by Successes.

I was reading the other night in a book titled Grace for the Good Girl: Letting Go of the Try-Hard Life (highly recommend!!!), about failures. The book talked about how we have some failures that are sinful failures, and need to be redeemed. But then we also simply have failures that have nothing to do with sin. Like a recipe that doesn't work out quite right, a sports game that we lose, trying to say something and having a complete malfunction of vocabulary, or failing to increase your WPM as much as you want to, are all examples of this kind of failure.

I am very familiar with this latter kind of failure(although I am also sadly very familiar with the former kind as well). I can't count the amount of recipes I have failed, the games that others have sorely dominated me in, the times my words come out sounding like an infant speaking, or the times I have once again mourned my lack of typing speed.

But good news!!! This post isn't about my failures(sorry, I kind of went off on a tangent there), but rather about my recent successes. I wanted to share with you some of the wonderful successes I have made in the last few days that have made me realize how wonderfully God has blessed me.

First I have a bunch of recipes I have recently tried, that turned out really well!!!
  • Blueberry Cheesecake Smoothie (Recipe called for strawberries, but I used blueberries instead)
  • Mint Lemonade*
  • Open-Faced Philly Cheese Steak*
  • Cauliflower Alfredo (I just mixed this in with farfalle noodles, and even the little kids loved it!)

The other wonderful success I had in the last couple days was a wonderful deep clean of the kitchen. Wednesday morning, as I made breakfast at about 8:15 in the morning, I realized the entire kitchen was a complete mess. The sink and counters were grimy, the fridge door was in sore need of a cleaning, the pantry was so stuffed it was hard to close the door, the pots, pans, and Tupperware were all scattered and in the wrong cupboards, and the floor was covered in dirty/sticky spots.

I firmly decided I couldn't put up with it anymore, and so immediately began to tackle it. I only had a little over an hour before I had to leave for work, but I was determined to get a good head start and finish the rest on Thursday morning. An hour later the dishes were all clean and put away, the sink and counters had been deep cleaned, and the cupboards were now clean and back in order.

Then yesterday after sleeping in till 8:20, I made breakfast, played a song on the piano, got ready for the day, turned on some music, and got back to work. 2 1/2 hours later, the pantry, fridge, oven, floor, and windowsill were cleaned, and all that was left to do was a few homey touches. I went outside with an old fashioned coke bottle, and filled it with wild flowers, and then placed that on the windowsill.

Then last, but probably the most wonderful success of all is a new mini chalkboard on the windowsill that has room to write a simple phrase like "Rejoice in the Lord." This was made with a block of wood, Homemade Chalkboard Paint, and a paintbrush. I painted the block of wood at about 10:30 am and placed it out in the very hot sun to dry, and it was done about 1:30 pm, when I brought it in, wrote "Love" on it in chalk, and placed it one the windowsill. I was so excited it worked, and when my mother came home last night she was shocked to find out that homemade chalkboard paint was that easy and simple.

I am SO thankful to God that he gave me the energy, creativity, and ability these last few days to pull off these successes. My heart is very uplifted, and I am very happy to be working in a sparkly kitchen once again with my own little chalkboard to write praises on. I hope some of the links that I have shared and God's grace will enable you to be blessed by successes in the day ahead.
