How to Use "The Lust Dare"
Day #27: Whatever is
Excellent
“But also for this
very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue.”
-2 Peter 1:5
“Finally brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble,
whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue…” Virtue? What
does that mean? Well it is often translated as that which is excellent. We are
called to think on and add to our faith that which is excellent.
People like to display emo guys
saying things such as “dood,” and “righteous,” and “wicked, man.” But another
one they use when something is just truly incredible is “excellent.” They’ll
draw it out real slow to make their point, and express their appreciation. It
can be kind of funny, but I also like the picture of that.
What do we think on that causes to
slowly and with appreciation say “excellent”? I know for me, I would be likely
to say that when I see a really incredible film that just ends beautifully and
then when I am watching the credits roll, I just take a deep breath and say
“Wow….” That is my form of “excellent….” I will do the same thing when I read a
good book, hear a well put together speech or sermon, or sit down to peruse
some Shakespeare.
Because people are created in
God’s image, they inherited His creativity. You will see God’s handiwork in
that which people create; in the beautiful poetry of Shakesperare’s writing, in
the incredible music that proceeded from Beethoven’s fingers, in the creativity
of a stand-up comedian, or in the movie-making of Steven Spielberg. You will be
surfing Youtube and find someone who can just really tickle the ivories or can make a large audience laugh, or do some
incredible physical feat, and you will just sit back and think “excellent....”
These things that are of virtue,
and that speak of God in their very being, are things that are excellent; that
which we should be thinking on. And to finish that thought out, I want to share
some things with you that I have found excellent.
“So God created man in
His own image; in the image of
God He created him; male and female He created them.” –Genesis 1:27
Today’s Dare
Find some things that are excellent and speak of God’s
handiwork, and His image displayed in His creation. Then think on these things.
Implement them into your mind by sharing them with your accountability partner
or someone else. Choose today to think on that which is excellent, and to fill
your mind with that which displays god and his creation.
