The boards I wanted to progress in(homeschooling, things for the future, children's busy ideas, done this, for the home, and possibly articles) are slowly moving in the right direction! Improvement by 5 pins in the first, 2 in the second, 3 in the third, 3 in the fourth, and 11 in the fifth! I only pinned 7 things outside of my desired boards. Whereas I pinned 24 useful pins. Improvement!
Just so you know, I am not trying to completely eliminate the usage or growing of the non-desired boards, simply trying to get my priorities straight. Just as in real life, I shouldn't completely get rid of anything that is simply interesting or funny, but should place more time in those things that need attention.
What qualifies what is useful or needed? The idea is based both of the scriptural command to seek after knowledge, and the idea of a hope chest. Seeking after knowledge is greatly encouraged by Solomon in many different scripture passages. “By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is full of strength and a man of knowledge enhances his might.”(Pro 24:3-5).
“Yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”(Pro 2:3-6).

“Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, for the gain from her is better than gain from silver, and her profit better than gold.”(Pro 3:13-14).
So what is a hope-chest then? A hope chest is an idea that I have heard spoken off for many young woman. In the older days, young women would spend their single years sewing garments, making quilts, embroidering curtains and pillowcases, gathering recipes, and many other things. These articles would then be placed in a large wooden box, often at the foot of their bed, and thus when the time for marriage and motherhood came, they were prepared to outfit their new home, and to feed and care for their husband and children.
So my idea was: why not have both a physical hope chest, with recipes, garments, or other household materials, and a hope chest of knowledge? A woman should not only go into marriage with things for her home, but should also go into marriage and motherhood with a store of knowledge on the tasks and skills needed in that adventure.
So how do I decide which pins are useful? I ask myself the following questions:
  • Will this aid me as a mother or a wife?
  • Can I use this idea or knowledge to further my household?
  • Can I use this to learn a needed skill?
  • Can I gain insight from this that will change me into someone more prepared for marriage?
These and many more are questions that help me decide if I am using pinterest to practice what I preach, or if I am simply browsing the internet for a good laugh?
What are you pinning today?
